Spartanburg Sheriff Announces Traffic Enforcement Blitz as County Again Tops SC in Road Deaths

The sheriff of Spartanburg County wants to combat the number of deaths on roads in his county, recently pointing out that Spartanburg leads the state in traffic fatalities. Law enforcement in other counties are also trying to deal with aggressive driving, speeding and other behaviors that year after year place South Carolina among the worst states for fatalities and injuries.

Now that we are in the midst of what law enforcement calls the “100 deadly days of summer,” the need for enforcement of traffic laws becomes more urgent. However, law officers across the state are already understaffed and over-burdened. There is technology available to offer support, technology used in all states except six, but it is banned in South Carolina. Automated Road Safety Technology (ARSC) has been given the Proven Safety Countermeasure designation by the Federal Highway Administration Office of Safety.

It’s time that the legislature of South Carolina changes the law to allow municipalities to choose to support their law officers and reduce deaths and injuries by adopting ARSC. You can help by contacting your legislators and asking them to end the ban.
